Around 40 thousand Indians came to build the railway, 3,000 died, 4000 were invalidaded home, 7000 elected to stay on in East Africa, mostly to run the Lunatic Express. Once done Indian traders began to trickle in to take trade into the interior. Idi Amin Dada said, the railway is now built, the Indians should go home. And he sent us packing.
